He trained in these disciplines for ten years winning over one hundred trophies in various competitions. Marchant moved on to "Boogie" dancing (similar to street jazz) and won all three major competitions in Cape Town with his brother's dance team 'The Cool Boys'. In 1999 He won the Cape Jazz Championship (South African partner dance similar to salsa) beating over four hundred couples. In 2000 Marchant moved to England and started training in salsa. He performed salsa with a group called Yes Brazill, and then the London Allstar Latin dancers. Marchant's dancing is influenced by New York Mambo. Over the years he has trained with Frankie Martinez, Juan Matos, Nelson Flores, Thomas Guerrero, Victor & Burju (Hacha Y Machete), and had the priviledge of interviewing Eddie Torres for Mambocity. His background in Ballroom and Cape Jazz has also made a major contribution to his smooth style and approach to salsa. Marchant BirchIn 2001 Marchant won the Tropicana world-open amateur salsa championship, and in 2002 was invited to start teaching. With another former member of the LAL dancers, Lilly, Marchant formed a performance partnership until she returned to her home in France. Their show 'Burglars' was a huge hit with salsa audiences. Marchant then teamed up with Andrea Stewart (director of Duende Dance Company). In December 2003 Marchant and Andrea received an award at the British Salsa Congress for most outstanding newcomers. Marchant then worked with Candice Leong, performing at the UK Salsa Congress 2004, and at other events in the UK and Europe. They also appeared together in the music video Shake A Leg by Roll Deep. In 2005, Marchant founded Alchemy Dance Company, a new and exciting project which incorporates mambo, ballroom, and classical jazz techniques. In 2006 he started the Alchemy Dance Academy which provides the opportunity for the general salsa public to improve their dancing by way of the Alchemy method of dance training. Dean and Jess Dean
and
Jess

Dean and Jessica are a dance partnership who came together in February 2006. Their enthusiastic, fun approach to teaching is becoming more widely welcomed. Dean has danced with Diablo Dance Company & won with them The European Group Champions 2006. Jessica concentrates on New York Salsa (On2), originally referred to as MAMBO. Dean and Jess practice the techniques of complex turn patterns, footwork and body movement. In early 2007 they opened their company Salsa Para Dos. The decision to open their own Salsa Promotion Company was inspired by many dancers and students who felt that the needs of dedicated salsa dancers in the area were not being met. They run weekly classes for 3 levels including absolute beginners and have now started to organise weekend party nights. They have both recently been invited to be founder members of a new dance group pioneered by Lee (of Lee and Shelley) and they're looking forward to training and working with Lee. Dean and Jessica teach a variety of partner work, shines and styling to meet the level required. They draw attention to the principles of leading and following to enable their students to grow in confidence when social dancing.
